Zhang graduated from Tsinghua University majoring in precision optical instruments. Zhang served as the director of the Third Research Institute of Nanjing Fiberglass Research Design Institute, the Chairman of Chunhui Company, the member of the 5th Fiber Optics Integrated Optics Professional Committee of the Optical Society of China, Deputy Director of Photonic Biomedicine Engineering Professional Committee of Jiangsu Society of Laser Optical Engineering, the member of the 3rd 4th Optoelectronic Technology Professional Committee of the Optical Society of China. He enjoys special government allowances from the State Council.

Zhang has been engaged in the research of optical fiber its application, has many years of research development experience in non-communication optical fiber performance testing optical fiber preform research, optical fiber manufacturing application, optical fiber image bundle industrial endoscope.

Zhang once was inge of the research on medical fiber optic headlamps, bed lamps, long-distance image beams. Zhang undertook the national science technology project "Research on the Large-scale Production Technology of Optical Fiber Image Transmission Bundles Industrial Endoscopes", established a production base capable of mass production of image transmission bundles endoscopes. The project won the second prize of Jiangsu Province Science Technology Progress Award in 1999 the second prize of National Science Technology Progress Award in 2001

Research achievements:

1. "Research on the process of manufacturing large core diameter large N.A. optical fiber preform by MCVD method" won the third prize of the provincial scientific technological progress award in 1987.

2. "12 optical fiber medical devices light guide rings for aircraft" won the 2nd prize of the Ministry of Science Technology Progress in 1990.

3. "Research on rigid multi-component glass optical fiber bundles" "Research on light guide rods for tooth curing machines" won the 3rd prize of the company's scientific technological progress in 1997.

4. "Research on large-scale production technology of multi-row porous co-extrusion plastic optical fiber" won the second prize of provincial scientific technological progress in 2001.

5. "Research on large-scale production technology of optical fiber bundles industrial endoscopes" won the 2nd prize of Jiangsu Province Science Technology Progress Award in 1999, the 1st prize of Nanjing Science Technology Progress Award in 2000, the second prize of National Science Technology Progress Award in 2001.
